About the Exhibition
Danforth Art is pleased to exhibit paper-engineered books in the exhibition Pop-Up Shape & Color! From the Ellie G. Levine Movable Book Collection in our Children’s Gallery. Levine’s collection represents a variety of pop-up books, masterful examples of the book as art form, featuring an array of techniques that date back as early as the 14th century and a wide breadth of subject matter. Works on view, including books by acclaimed authors and illustrators David Carter, Marion Bataille, and James Diaz, will present vibrant and creative pop-up interpretations of shape and color. Even the work of Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Red Grooms, and M.C. Escher are brought to three-dimensional life with tabs, flaps, transformations, and folds!
About the Children’s Gallery
Danforth Art’s Children’s Gallery is dedicated to the art of the picture book, and our exhibitions contribute to museum and school programs that engage, inspire, and transform the lives of children and adults. Picture books are a child’s first art gallery experience, teaching the youngest members of our audience about color, shape, and line.
