Danforth Art Museum to reopen in 2019 as part of The Danforth Art Center at Framingham State University

Danforth Art Museum relocated to its new home—the Jonathan Maynard Building on Framingham Centre Common—and began a multi-phase renovation of the building with administrative offices, curatorial workspace, and the studio art school. Art classes have been offered since early 2017, but museum exhibitions and programs have been presented offsite with partnering institutions: the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA, Endicott College in Beverly, MA, the Worcester Art Museum, and North Hill in Needham, MA.

We will conclude our offsite exhibition program with Figuration in American Art: Selections from the Danforth Art Permanent Collection at North Hill, through March 2018.

Danforth Art Museum/School is in the final phase of becoming part of Framingham State University. Renovation of the Jonathan Maynard Building begins in April to house The Danforth Art Center at Framingham State University, opening in 2019. The museum will reopen at that time, with its vibrant and thought-provoking rotating exhibitions, its celebrated works from both our Permanent Collection and the Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller Special Collection, and many of its related museum experiences. We remain committed to the discovery, promotion, and celebration of emerging and established artists from the region, and look forward to once again showcasing contemporary works from this community.

Information for Visitors

For the last year, Danforth Art has presented travelling exhibitions only, drawn entirely from the holdings of the Danforth Art Permanent Collection, with partnering cultural and educational organizations in the region.

The museum will reopen at the Jonathan Maynard Building in early 2019 as part of The Danforth Art Center at Framingham State University.

PLEASE NOTE: Danforth Art Museum’s signature juried exhibitions—the Danforth Art Annual and The New England Photography Biennial—have been suspended until the organization is able to host those exhibitions in its own galleries.
