Portfolio & Teen

Summer classes for high school students are affordable week-long studio art intensives that take place Monday through Friday from 12:30 - 4 p.m. during July and August 2008..
PRE-COLLEGE PORTFOLIO classes are for upper level high school students who are considering applying to art school and are developing their 2-D portfolios. All Portfolio classes are taught by local college art instructors — from School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston University, Montserrat College of Art, Framingham State College and Rhode Island College.
TEEN classes are for students ages 13 - 15 who want to explore art concepts, materials and techniques in a creative art school environment.

Portfolio
Classes are taught by college art instructors and are for upper level students who are interested in applying to art school and are developing their portfolios. All classes are one week long, and meet Monday through Friday from 12:30 - 4 p.m.

Complete finished portfolio drawings, and concentrate on finding personal solutions to set problems. Students will explore formal elements of line, form, value, texture, and space as they draw from direct observation. This course will give students a college foundation drawing experience and is appropriate for upper level students who are thinking about applying to art school.

Session 1 : June 23 - 27, 2008 with Jill Grimes
Session 7 : August 11 - 15, 2008 with Catherine Carter
Create traditional and non-traditional book structures in a variety of materials, such as painting, drawing, collage, and photographs. This class is a perfect way to transform unfinished and unwanted artworks into a finished 3D object – a book. Students will explore individual expression and create personal and unique visual journals.
Sessions 2 : July 7 - 11, 2008 with Rhoda Rosenberg
Having a well structured head, with authentic form, is important for every portfolio. This class is a full investigation of portraiture, including anatomy, proportion and measurement. Students will draw facial features in detail and build their skills in capturing their subject’s character in both line and tone.
Session 3 : July 14 - 18, 2008 with Robert Collins
This class is a college level investigation of painting materials and techniques. Using acrylics and working from direct observation, students will explore color and basic concepts of form, light and composition.
Session 4 : July 21 - 25, 2008 with Wilber Blair
Explore the materials and techniques of transparent watercolor painting, including dry brush, washes, layering, color mixing, and utilizing the white of the paper. This is an excellent class to expand upon drawing knowledge and experiment with spontaneity and expressive painting techniques.
Session 5 : July 28 - August 1, 2008 with Catherine Carter
Use a variety of materials, traditional and unexpected, to create works based on both observation and abstract ideas. This class focuses on composition, process, experimentation, and on the making intelligent and intuitive decisions during the act of art making.
Session 6 : August 4 - 8, 2008 with Wilber Blair

Teen
Classes for
ages 13 - 15
Classes are for students ages 13—15 who want to explore art concepts, materials and techniques in a creative art school environment. All classes are one week long, and meet Monday through Friday from

Explore a variety of traditional and experimental watercolor techniques. Students will learn about materials and investigate color, composition and expression. There will be an emphasis on experimentation and process in this exciting class.
Session 1 : June 23 - 27, 2008 with Nan Rumpf
Sharpen observational skills and explore line, value, texture, proportion, composition and expression. Students will explore the basic elements while learning different techniques and approaches to drawing.

Session 2 : July 7 - 11, 2008 with Catherine Carter
Session 4 : July 21 - 25, 2008 with TBA
Learn to draw the fashion figure and render fabrics like fur and leather. Discover unique sources for clothing designs, find out about famous fashion designers past and present, and more.
Session 3 : July 14 - 18, 2008 with Catherine Carter
Use a variety of materials, traditional and unexpected, to create works based on both observation and abstract ideas. This class focuses on composition, experimentation and personal expression.
Session 5 : July 28 - August 1, 2008 with Wilber Blair
Explore drawing, painting and collage, and more! Class focuses on using the elements and principles of design to create art, both traditional and imaginary.
Session 6 : August 4 - 8, 2008 with Ryan Mehigan
View the world through the leans of a Holga Camera (medium format camera) and learn to develop and print photographs in a darkroom. Learn about lighting, composition, and expression using photography.
