The Danforth Museum of Art is pleased to present the work of children’s book illustrator Janet Montecalvo.  Original illustrations for her recently published book Sophie and the City will be on view from September 10 through October 22, 2006 in the Museum’s children’s gallery, which has been dedicated to the art of children’s book illustration.

Janet Montecalvo will be present at 3 p.m. on September 10, to sign copies of Sophie and the City.  The book will be available for sale in the Museum StoreJanet Montecalvo is a resident of Framingham and teaches art in the Framingham Public Schools.  Sophie and the City is her first published book.

Sophie in the City is the story of a little girl from Senegal, who wears flip flops and loves to paint with chalk on the sidewalk. 

Classes at the Danforth Museum School

Children’s illustrator Janet Montecalvo also be teaching two fall classes in the Danforth Museum School for children, grades 1-3.

Paint with Chalk will be given on Saturday, September 16, from 10 am until noon.  Flip Flop Art will be given on Saturday, October 14, from 10 am until noon.  Cost is $20. for museum members and $25. for non members.  Those wishing to register for classes may do so at the Family Fun Day, Sunday, September 10, or by calling 508-620-0937.
